Hope Happenings August 23, 2014
What an exciting week for Hope and the Schelers.  Five years ago this week, is when God brought us to live in Santa Rosa Beach and serve with you at Hope.  What a blessing Hope has been for us and we look forward to many more years with all of you.  If you haven't heard our story of how God brought us here, we would love to share it with you some time over coffee, breakfast, or lunch.

Pastor Jason continued his series on the Lord's Prayer with "Thy Will Be Done".  Understanding the Lord's will can seem to be a mystery to many of us.  Is His will to be found by the tug of the heart, or is His will revealed in different signs, or am I to wait for a some kind of voice?  Even if one of those things did happen, how would I know it truly is God  and not some kind of indigestion or chance or really my own voice in my head.  When we pray, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven", we are asking the Lord of Lords to have His will done through us, personally and we are saying we are willing/desiring His will to be done. Ephesians 6:6 sums it up. " ..doing the will of God from the heart..."  Doing the will of God not reluctantly, not just going through the motions, but from the heart.  The will of God is defined in three categories; will of Purpose, Desire and Command.    God's will of Purpose is what He purposes that will happen and is bound to His eternal plan. (Jeremiah 51:29, Romans
8:28, Ephesians 1:9-11).  God's will of desire are those things that do not happen. God desires all be saved but not everyone will.  (Luke 13:34, 1 Timothy 2:4).  Lastly is His will of Command. God has made His will very clear in scripture through His commands. Those commands can be summarized by the great command (Luke 10:27) and the great commission (Matthew 28:18).
While God does reveal His will in a variety of ways, why do we expect a special revelation if we are not following what He has already revealed to us?  We need to know the certainty of His will that He has spoken in order to recognize His will in other areas of life.
How do I live God's will?
1.  Pray to seek His will in all things.
2.  Study God's word.  We systematically study the word of God in order that we can justify, ratify, and clarify and feeling, nudge, or sign that we think is from the Lord.
3.  Live by the Spirit.  This means we are to be controlled by the Spirit of God that we know and walk in step to His will.
4.  Seek out Biblical Discerning Council.  We seek other spiritually mature and discerning people to give us godly feedback. (Proverbs 27:17)
"And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that your love may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God."(Philippians 1:9-10)
